Don Mahoney and Jeanna Clare with Their Kiddie Troupers was a weekly local television program first broadcast on KPRC-TV and then on KHTV Channel 39 in Houston. On the air for nearly 30 years, the program adopted a talent show format in order to showcase musical performances by local children. In this episode—broadcast on Channel 39 on December 20, 1970—hosts Mahoney and Clare welcome actress Annette O’Toole back to the “ranch.” O’Toole, a Houston native, made her first television appearance as a guest on the program at the age of two. After chatting with Mahoney about working in Hollywood, she sings “Didn’t We.” Given the proximity to Christmas, many of the other children’s performances come from holiday tunes like “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town,” “Sleigh Ride,” and “The Christmas Song.” Clare also sings a musical rendition of the Lord’s Prayer. In between segments, a voice-over narrator promotes Mohoney and Clare’s branded Barrel O’ Chicken restaurant chain and color photo business.
