This 1982 promotional film for the United Way uses the story of an office worker named Harry to educate the public about the far-reaching impact of their services. While expressing his irritation about having to give to the United Way at work that day, he wishes that he could do away with The United Way altogether. In response to his complaints, a cigar-smoking genie named Joe appears to grant Harry his wish. Joe takes Harry around to various United Way agencies, gathering the beneficiaries for Harry to take care of himself. Harry learns that agencies such as the Boy Scouts, the YMCA, American Red Cross, and the Salvation Army, among others, make up the 83 agencies funded by the United Way in the tri-county Houston area comprised of Harris County, Montgomery County, and Fort Bend County. When Harry realizes the error of his ways, Joe returns him to the carpool a changed man, ready to generously give to the United Way.
