Modern technologies can only do so much when it comes to predicting a tornado; indeed it may be that radar does not pick up on a tornado until it is too late, even though there may have been clear visible cues. Thus it is essential for weather services to solicit trained tornado spotters who are able to watch storm systems for developments that suggest a cyclone. The purpose of this film – Tornadoes: A Spotter’s Guide – is to help train these tornado spotters so that they will be able to help recognize when a tornado is prone to develop.
