This film captures scenes of the Liberty, Texas bicentennial celebration of 1956. Liberty is the third oldest town in the state, and Texas heroes William B. Travis, Sam Houston, and David Burnet all practiced law in Liberty. At the bicentennial celebration, citizens perform historical reenactments and put on a parade. Later, young cowboys and cowgirls rope calves and receive awards at Alvin’s FFA Rodeo. The producer of this film, Jim W. Keeland, was a photographer and videographer in the Houston area for sixty years. He took photographs and films for Houston's NBC affiliate, KPRC-TV, from 1948 until 1961, worked for the Houston Post from 1951 to 1982 as a printer, and was a freelance photographer of agricultural subjects.
