This footage, taped by director Jim Ruddy for “Entertainment Tonight”, contains an interview with Lana Garner, the former owner of the now-defunct Movie One chain of theaters that was based in El Paso, Texas and operated throughout the American Southwest during the 1980s and 1990s. In the interview, Garner defends her decision to screen Christian recording artist Carman’s music video “A Witch’s Invitation” without notice before the scheduled programming at several Movie One theaters during the 1991 Halloween season. Garner also responds to criticisms that “A Witch’s Invitation,” which links Halloween with Satanism and features a warlock named “Isaac Horowitz,” is anti-Semitic.
Reverend Lana Garner is the former owner of Movie One Theaters, a now-defunct motion picture theater chain based in El Paso, Texas. Following the sale of Movie One Theaters, Garner founded Majesty Media, a producer of Christian-related television and online programming.
In 1991, Garner drew heavy criticism from theater patrons and the media for her decision to screen a Christian-themed music video without notice before the scheduled programming at a number of her theaters. That video, “A Witch’s Invitation,” featured Christian recording artist Carman battling a warlock named “Isaac Horowitz,” who himself was likely a caricature of American Druid Isaac Bonewits.
