This silent news footage from the KCTV News Collection captures scenes of the 1967 Miss Wool of America contestants participating in the River Float Parade and pageant. For the River Float Parade, each contestant rides in a boat adorned with lights and waves to the onlookers on the banks of the Concho River. More elaborate floats from the community’s civic organizations float alongside the contestants, often with dancers or bands performing on the float. Scenes of the pageant include Hollywood actor Donald O’Connor hosting the contest, pop singer Jane Morgan, the contestants performing dance numbers with O’Connor, and the coronation ceremony. The Miss Wool of America Pageant took place annually from 1952-1972 in San Angelo, sponsored by the National Wool Growers Association, the American Sheep Producers Council, and the Wool Bureau, Inc. Miss Wool represented the wool industry nationally, touring the country in the latest woolen fashions.
