This episode of Japan Screen Topics includes segments on an appearance by Emperor Hirohito and the state visit of Queen Elizabeth II to Japan. In “Emperor Greets 74th Birthday,” Hirohito and his wife, Empress Kojun, greet the Japanese people and commemorate the emperor’s 74th birthday. “Queen Elizabeth II Visits Japan” shows highlights from the visit of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. The royal couple meets the imperial family at Akasaka Palace, attend a state dinner, visit the National Diet Building, and tour Tokyo. Japan Screen Topics was a monthly publicity series produced by the International Motion Picture Company for the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1961 to 1988. Now known as Japan Video Topics, the program continues to this day, distributed via Japanese embassies and consulates to organizations in over 100 countries.
