Produced by Del Mar College, TCI Cablevision, and KEDT-TV, this documentary follows the story of the Texas Jazz Festival in Corpus Christi. Founding members, including Al “Beto” Garcia and his nephew Joe Gallardo, recount the start of the festival in 1959 as a jazz concert at Del Mar College. After several years and several different locations, the founders established the Texas Jazz Festival Society to educate the public and promote live jazz as America’s indigenous music. The festival has always maintained free admission and invited local musicians as well as artists from across the nation and the world. The documentary includes interviews with the festival founders, various musicians, and festival attendees. The majority of the footage includes segments of different performances.
