On the air from 1950 to 1960, Industry on Parade was a nationally syndicated television series produced by the National Association of Manufacturers about various industrial processes. This 1950s segment highlights Nutty Brown Mills, a factory located on the Silver Spur Ranch in Cedar Valley, Texas. In addition to raising Shetland ponies, owner Alan Sears mills flour from cottonseed hulls. The flour is then used to make Nutty Brown Bread, a low-starch alternative. During World War II, the company also began producing pralines and other candies. Today, Nutty Brown Mills is the home of the Nutty Brown Cafe and Amphitheater. Pralines remain on the menu and even use the original recipe.
