Under Texas Skies is a feature-length B Western directed by J.P. McGowan. Released in 1930, the film stars Bob Custer, Natalie Kingston, and Bill Cody. While most likely not filmed on location in Texas, the film is set near the Texas-Mexico border in Pecos County. In the film, Cody plays Captain Jack Hartford, sent by the Army to purchase horses. On his way, Hartford is kidnapped by a group of horse thieves. With Hartford held under guard, the gang’s boss (Tom London) poses as the captain in a scheme to move the horses across the border. Rankin (Custer), however, becomes suspicious of the fake Hartford and attempts to upset the rustlers’ plan.
