In 1954, Rabbi Robert Schur traveled to Israel to give his congregation in Alexandria, Louisiana, a firsthand report about the 6-year-old nation. Two years later, Schur moved to the Beth-El Congregation in Fort Worth, where he remained until his death in 1994. Among the memorabilia he left behind were three 8mm reels of home movies from his historic trip. 60 years later, the Beth-El Archives digitized the films and added captions from the rabbi’s letters home to create this video for the temple’s 2014 exhibit, Journeys to Israel.
