  •  Military academy graduation parade and ceremony with President of the Republic of Vietnam Ngo Dinh Diem in attendance. South Vietnamese military forces overthrew Diem’s government on November 1, 1963. The ousted ruler and his brother were assassinated the following day. While many in South Vietnam celebrated Diem’s death, whose regime had become increasingly despotic, the ensuing political chaos led the United States to increase its involvement in the Vietnam War.

Shot by TAMI donor Brooks Toland Kasson’s father, who served as an attaché with the United States Air Force in Vietnam, this home movie captures military personnel and their families traveling around Vietnam in October 1961. After snorkeling and golfing in Nha Trang, the group witnesses a Vietnamese military academy graduation parade and ceremony attended by President of the Republic of Vietnam Ngo Dinh Diem in attendance.
