Written and directed by Louis Young, R.N., M.S.N., this educational film teaches educators how to control various medical emergencies in a classroom. Produced by the Educational Service Center in Austin, the film received funding from the United States Office of Education and the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare. The film is structured into multiple segments. The first segment involves a reenactment of a student suffering from a specific medical issue, such as a seizure. The next segment shows Dr. Young explaining the appropriate first aid care in each situation, using a student as an example. Finally, a reenactment shows the teacher adhering to these guidelines and helping her students to the best of her ability. Moments designated for “Discussion Time” and “Practice Time” follow each specific medical issue.
