  •  M Davis & B Ragan: On November 21, 1961, Margaret Davis published a front-page article in the Houston Press questioning the propriety of Judge Billy Ragan of the Harris County Criminal Court. Ragan had previously stated in an affidavit that he devoted half of his time to his insurance business. Ragan hotly responds to the article’s allegations and accuses Davis of personal bias.  
  •  Melton, Foy: The Texas Surpreme Court hears City of Houston v. Melton. Inspector Foy Melton was indefinitely suspended from the Houston Police Department in October 1959 after a patrolman claimed Melton tried to bribe him. He won reinstatement in a district court and the First Court of Civil Appeals, but the Supreme Court reversed the verdicts.

This film from KHOU-TV Channel 11 in Houston contains a series of short news segments that would have aired as highlights to news stories. Many are silent and would have been voiced over by the anchorperson during a live broadcast. The titles for each segment are the originals created by KHOU-TV. The clips on this reel all date from the spring of 1962. This series includes news segments about various criminal and civil court cases, including the City of Houston v. Melton, as well as interviews with State Senator Robert Baker, State Representative Paul Floyd, and Congressman Bob Casey.
The digital preservation of this collection was made possible by a grant to the Texas Archive of the Moving Image and the Houston Public Library from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission and the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services.
