This 1981 home movie captures a visit to the now-closed Six Flags AstroWorld amusement park in Houston. In the footage, a group of families ride several of AstroWorld’s attractions, including the Lost World Adventure boat ride. In the attraction, riders move through a simulated jungle setting, where they encounter multiple animatronics, based off real (elephants, hippos) and imaginary (a King Kong-sized gorilla) animals. AstroWorld opened on June 1, 1968, as part of the Astrodomain, a development complex owned by former Houston Mayor Roy Hofheinz. Six Flags bought the park in 1975, operating it until its closure in 2005.
