Directed by University of Texas at Austin film student Michael Fleming, this 1985 film follows a family as they prepare to sell their grandmother’s house. As the adults survey the outside, the children get one last chance to explore the house and immediately find their way to the attic. The dark space is filled with heirlooms of the past, including an old photograph, antique clothes, and a music box. As the music box begins to play, the children dance a waltz together and are suddenly transported into the past. They find themselves at a ball with their grandmother overlooking the festivities. The sound of a car horn draws the children back to the present, and they say their final goodbyes to their grandmother. Bill Mackie was a professor in the Radio-Television-Film Department at the University of Texas. He now works as an independent broadcast media professional.
