In these segments from local television show, The Weekend Journal, host Dennis Tardan takes a look at the quirky underbelly of Victoria, Texas. At a local bingo hall, Tardan interviews serious bingo players about their goals, strategies, and overall passion for the game. Later, he speaks with residents at Cattleman’s Bar and Grill about drinking alcohol. The footage also include a famous FedEx commercial directed by Joe Sedelmaier and featuring “Motormouth” John Moschitta, and a spotlight on the Victoria Summer Musical Reparatory Company’s production of South Pacific. Produced by Tardan and Ken Lieck, The Weekend Journal was a satirical program broadcast on weekend nights on KXIX-TV Channel 19 (now KVCT) in Victoria. Featuring interviews with nudists and visual jokes about domestic violence, the show soon attracted protests from church groups and the local Women’s Crisis Center. Television stations removed it from the air after 16 weeks.
