This short documentary remembers when Hollywood came to Fort Bend County to shoot North of 36, a silent Western distributed by Paramount Pictures. Historian Wolfram Von-Maszeweski explains how the picture filmed on location around the Blakeley Ranch. The film also speaks with locals whose relatives participated in the production. Directed by Irvin Willat and starring Jack Holt and Lois Wilson, North of 36 tells the story of a young woman who inherited her father’s cattle ranch and begins a cattle drive to Abilene. The movie was adapted from an Emerson Hough novel, known for his Western and historical novels.
