This home movie segment captures the scene before the Texas School for the Deaf (TSD) homecoming football game in Austin on October 24, 1992. The TSD Knights were playing the Concordia Lutheran Crusaders from Tomball. After introductory remarks from school administrators, students present prizes to the Spirit Week winners. A faculty member then announces the winners of the cottage decorating contest. The TSD cheerleaders then lead an ASL rendition of the national anthem before the football team rushes the field.
Located in Austin, the Texas School for the Deaf is both a statewide and national leader in deaf education. The school first opened its doors in 1857 with only four male students. In 2009, the school housed over 500 students on campus, with many others in summer and short programs. TSD also offers outreach programs to families of students with hearing disabilities outside the Austin area.
